Invitation Sunday is not a replacement for everyday missionary living — it's a catalyst. By uniting the entire ward around a single day, we build momentum, create a polished welcoming experience, and demonstrate the power of collective effort.

Module 02 — Preparation Timeline

One Month Preparation Plan

One Month Before

Ward Council Planning & Speaker Invitations

  • Bishopric and ward council finalize the sacrament meeting theme and program focus.
  • Identify the spiritual message so members can invite with purpose.
  • Issue formal invitations to speakers and musicians.
  • Confirm special music (choir, ensemble, or prepared number) will be rehearsed.
  • Begin planning the potluck or refreshments to follow the meeting.

Two Weeks Before — Sunday

Ward Council Briefing & Outreach Begins

  • Bishopric briefs the ward council on the sacrament meeting theme.
  • All organizations receive assignments of specific individuals and families to invite.
  • Members begin making personal invitations.
  • Outreach visits and phone calls begin this Sunday and continue for two weeks.

Two Weeks Before — Tuesday Evening

First Organization Outreach Night

  • All organizations conduct visits or personal outreach this Tuesday evening.
  • Relief Society, Elders Quorum, Young Men, Young Women, and other groups visit assigned families.
  • Tuesday is an excellent coordinated launch — organizations may also visit any evening.

One Week Before — Sunday

Continued Outreach & Relationship Building

  • Members continue personal invitations in their daily lives.
  • Organizations may conduct additional visits.
  • Discuss the sacrament meeting theme in Sunday classes.
  • Begin creating a list of specific friends and visitors expected on Invitation Sunday.

Final Organization Outreach Night

  • All organizations conduct a final evening of visits and personal invitations.
  • Follow up with anyone not yet contacted directly.
  • Prepare a final list of expected visitors for the Bishopric and greeters.

Building Preparation & Logistics

  • Thoroughly clean the meetinghouse inside and out, including all bathrooms.
  • Arrange fresh flowers in the chapel.
  • Brief greeters and ushers on expected visitors by name.
  • Confirm sound system, microphone, and music are ready.
  • Station umbrellas near entrances for Sunday.

Greeters In Place & Warm Welcome

  • Arrive early. Greeters positioned at every entrance by 9:45 AM.
  • Young Men or volunteers stand ready with umbrellas.
  • Missionaries and members greet every person by name if possible.
  • After the meeting, continue to welcome visitors and their families.
  • Bishopric is visible and available to thank everyone for attending.

Module 03 — Everyday Invitation Ideas

Where & How to Invite Friends

Members can invite anyone, anywhere. The key is a sincere, personal invitation that explains what makes the sacrament meeting meaningful.

At Work

Share a brief conversation during lunch or break. Mention the sacrament meeting theme.

"We have a beautiful worship service this Sunday. I'd love to have you join us. The message is about..."

At School or University

Chat with a fellow student. Share why your faith means something to you.

"Our church meeting is really uplifting. Would you consider coming with me this Sunday?"

In Your Neighborhood

Have a genuine conversation with neighbors. A warm hello and sincere invitation go far.

"We attend a wonderful church meeting on Sundays. You'd be welcome to join us anytime."

Sports, Hobbies & Recreation

At a game, gym, or community event, strike up a conversation and extend an invitation.

"We have Invitation Sunday on the second Sunday of each month. Come join us!"

Ministering Assignments

Your assigned families are a priority. Visit or call them personally with a heartfelt invitation.

"I'm reaching out to invite you personally to our sacrament meeting this Sunday."

Daily Life Encounters

At the gas station, grocery store, or anywhere — a simple invitation can plant a seed.

"Our church family would love to know you. Would you visit with us?"

The Power of Purpose

Because you have a clear sacrament meeting theme or message, you can invite with purpose. Tell them what the message is about. Help them understand why attending will bless their life. An invitation paired with a reason is far more compelling than a casual "come to church sometime."

Module 04 — Roles & Responsibilities

Who Does What

Bishopric

  • Plan sacrament meeting theme one month in advance
  • Personally invite five specific families or individuals
  • Set and track a measurable ward invitation goal
  • Prepare thank you cards or notes in advance
  • Send personal follow-up to every visitor within 24 hours
  • Greet and welcome visitors before and after meetings

Relief Society Presidency

  • Assign specific women to contact and invite
  • Lead organization visits on assigned Sundays and Tuesdays
  • Coordinate potluck refreshments if planned
  • Ensure no sisters sit or feel alone during meetings
  • Help follow up with returning or interested sisters

Elders Quorum Presidency

  • Assign specific brethren to contact and invite
  • Lead organization visits on assigned Sundays and Tuesdays
  • Provide umbrella volunteers at building entrances
  • Ensure returning or new brethren are welcomed by name

Young Men & Young Women

  • Presidencies assign youth names to invite personally
  • Conduct visits on Sundays and Tuesdays leading up
  • Young Men stand ready with umbrellas at entrances
  • Invite youth visitors to participate in classes

Primary

  • Primary presidency encourages families to invite friends with children
  • Prepare a welcoming environment for visiting children
  • Ensure teachers are ready to receive new or unfamiliar children
  • Follow up with families of visiting children after the meeting

Music Leadership

  • Prepare a choir number, ensemble, or special musical selection
  • Confirm music is spiritually centered on Jesus Christ
  • Schedule and conduct adequate rehearsals
  • Arrive early on Sunday to sound check

Every Member

  • Extend personal invitations to friends, neighbors, and colleagues
  • Explain the sacrament meeting theme when inviting
  • Greet at least one person you do not already know
  • Ensure no one sits alone in the chapel or classes
